The autogyro is an unusual rotocraft. One of these were piloted by RAF pilot Ken Wallis in the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice". Affectionately known as "Little Nelly" this Bond aircraft faced an attack by three enemy helicopters over a live volcano.
We had to replicate this famous sequence in CGI. The task was quite exciting with a inspiration of the Bond movie in front of us. We opted to create the terrain fully in CG to give us creative control and ease of camera placement in the shots. The Autogyro itself had a unique design which was a fun modeling and texturing exercise.
